What Are Garage Door Cables?

Lift cables are steel wire ropes that run from the bottom brackets on either side of the door up to the drums above the door. Working together with the springs, they support and guide the door’s movement as it opens and closes.

When a cable snaps or frays, the door can become unbalanced, fall unevenly, or fail to open entirely. This is a safety issue — a door with a broken cable can slam down without warning.

Cable + Bottom Bracket Replacement

$375

Flat rate — no service fee. Parts and labor included. Price confirmed before any work begins.

Why Replace Both Cables?

Just like springs, cables on the same door wear at the same rate. If one has snapped, the other is under extra stress and likely to fail soon. We recommend replacing both at the same time — it’s included in the flat rate.

Cables vs. Springs — What's the Difference?

A common question: did my spring break or my cable break? The symptoms can be similar. In many cases, a broken spring causes the cable to go slack, making it look like the cable is the problem. Our technician will diagnose which component has failed and give you an accurate quote before starting any work.
